Flatlays continue to be one of the biggest trends in commercial product photography. Quite simply, a "flatlay" is an image taken from directly above. Typically, the product will be given centre stage with sympathetic props used to style the rest of the composition. They can be super minimal, with just one of two coloured/textured backdrops, or busier - with the addition of different items, materials, and even suggestions of someone interacting with the scene. They look great on social media, clearly showing different variations of the same product, or suggesting ways a product might be used/styled in various scenarios for different markets. Depending on what suits your brand they can be minimal and neat, or more cluttered and rustic.
When shooting flatlays I often find the set up lends itself to some stop motion animation too, so don't be surprised if they start coming to life!
